Peak Demand header

The PJM grid forecasts high daily electricity demand as the hot weather lingers.

The hot weather conditions are expected to drive energy demand levels, threatening grid reliability.

PJM Forecasted Demand:

Monday, June 24, 2024
Expected Peak Timeframe: 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm EST
Potential Peak Demand: 132,034 MW

Tuesday, June 25, 2024
Expected Peak Timeframe: 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm EST
Potential Peak Demand: 142,450 MW (High Threat)

Wednesday, June 26, 2024
Expected Peak Timeframe: 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm EST
Potential Peak Demand: 137,993 MW (High Threat)

Recommended Action
To mitigate the risk of grid instability and potential outages, TPI recommends curtailing your electricity consumption from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm EST each day to the extent your operations allow.

Reducing demand during these peak hours, as listed above, can help alleviate stress on the grid and ensure a reliable power supply for all.

Peak Demand History: By the Numbers

Understanding Peak Demand Days

Coincident Peak Days

A coincident peak day is one of the five highest-demand days during the summer months when PJM measures the peak demand, typically during the hour of the day with the highest electricity usage. Your average demand during these five peak hours determines your capacity obligation (or “capacity tag”) for the following year, directly impacting your overall energy costs.
Benefits of Load Curtailment

Proactively reducing your consumption on coincident peak days can lower your business’s capacity obligation for the following year.

This effort can help mitigate the impact of high real-time and day-ahead prices, ultimately saving your organization money on energy costs.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding during these potential high demand days. Please get in touch if you have any questions or require further assistance.
