US Weather: 6-10 DAY AND 8-14 DAY OUTLOOK
- July is expected to break all records for the hottest month in Earth’s recorded history. This record heat was .6 degrees Fahrenheit hotter than the previous record. This increase is likely not a once-in-a-hundred- or 1,000-year event, as the previous record was broken in July 2019. As the climate warms, expect these records to fall more often.
- Waters in parts of the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico have reached a temperature of 101 degrees! These high temperatures were recorded in the waters off of Key West, FL. 101-degrees is the average temperature of a hot tub!
Energy Demand: ABOUT LAST WEEK’S PEAK DEMAND ALERTS
- The oppressive heat brought multiple peak demand warnings this week. The peak demand warnings are warnings from the electricity grid that electricity demand may be dangerously close to capacity and that the electric grid will measure your peak usage on the five hottest days, defining your cap tags for the year.
- Your cap tags affect your electricity rate as capacity makes up almost 30% of your electricity rate. Taking measures to lower your usage on peak demand days is an effective way to help control your energy costs.
EIA: WEEKLY GAS STORAGE
The Natural Gas Market took a bit of a dip on Wednesday, falling from its weeklong high of $2.755 and down more than ten cents to $2.642. This dip was prompted by weather forecasts calling for cooling temps in the Midwest and Northeast.
